Liz heads up the sizeable private client team in Guildford, advising on a broad spectrum of private client matters, including complex and high value work. She acts for prominent families across the South East, often representing several generations on wills and inheritance tax planning. As a director of the trust company PennTrust, she is also frequently appointed as a trustee of large family trusts.
Many of Liz’s clients have significant assets both in the UK and abroad and Liz is able to handle lifetime advice and the administration of cross-border estates of this type with ease. She has a particular specialism in advising conflicting families, wherever possible ensuring that issues do not become formally contentious.
Liz also acts on behalf of those who lack mental capacity, and deals with applications to the Court of Protection in interesting and unusual circumstances. She works closely with lawyers in the clinical negligence and personal injury teams, setting up and administering trusts for vulnerable beneficiaries and individuals in receipt of personal injury awards and making applications to the Court of Protection where appropriate. She was selected by the RFU Injured Players Foundation to act on behalf of all injured players and has expanded that role to assist school governing bodies and rugby clubs involved in fund raising.
Liz qualified in 2004 and is a regular lecturer to local intermediaries on changes in tax, in particular at present the Residence Nil Rate Band. Recognised by both the leading legal directories, she is described by Chambers as having ‘very good interpersonal skills’ and ‘technical expertise of the highest calibre’ as well as being ‘incredibly empathetic’. The Legal 500 says that she ‘leads her team very well’ and has acknowledged her as being ‘excellent with clients’.
