Anna Frankum, Partner at Penningtons Manches

Profile

Anna is a partner in our intellectual property, commercial and IT practice. She joined the firm in 1993 and became a partner in 2003. She has over 18 years' experience of advising on intellectual property law, particularly 'soft' IP such as trade marks and copyright. She also advises on commercial contracts including agency, distribution and supply agreements, as well as advertising and sponsorship agreements.

She represents a range of clients including manufacturers, brand owners and publishers, and has a special focus on the technology and education sectors. She is a member of the International Trademark Association and the IP sub-groups of Multilaw and the European Law Group. In addition, she is a contributing author to the UK chapter of Media, Advertising and Entertainment Laws Throughout the World.

Anna is recognised by The Legal 500, which describes her as 'very experienced, totally pragmatic, and highly efficient', and says that the lawyers in her team 'actively advise, rather than just process, and have real international capacity'.

Recent work highlights

  • Advising celebrity chef and musician, Levi Roots, on his international trade marks portfolio and successfully dealing with infringements and domain name disputes.
  • Acting for a global aerospace company on its application to invalidate a community trade mark registered by a competitor on the ground that it is generic.
  • Drafting licences to Domino’s Pizza, KFC, Ginsters and Chicken Joes on behalf of Levi Root’s company, Roots Reggae Reggae Sauce Ltd.
  • Advising Gordon Murray Design Limited on R and D agreements with major motor manufacturers, protecting the client’s intellectual property, and assisting with negotiations up to completion.
