Nicole leads the professional regulation team. She is experienced in providing advice on regulatory, disciplinary and public law (including judicial review). She was called to the Bar in 1992 and spent approximately ten years in independent practice before joining Penningtons in 2003. She became a partner in 2010 and, in doing so, was one of the first barristers to enter partnership with solicitors following the changes to the rules under the Legal Services Act 2007.
She regularly appears as an advocate before fitness to practise committees and has had conduct of a number of Privy Council appeals. Nicole also advises regulators on policy matters and reviews their rules, regulations and guidance documents.
Nicole sits as a legal assessor and is on the committee of the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers (ARDL). She is a member of the editorial board for ARDL's bulletins and organises the annual Marion Simmons QC essay prize. She has been described by The Legal 500 as 'brilliant' and ‘a clear and authoritative advocate’ and by Chambers UK as ‘really organised, efficient and very experienced’.
