There is a great feeling of support across all departments combined with a calm, friendly atmosphere.
Whichever team or office you are based in, we will work with you to help you realise your ambitions. Here people from a range of positions and professional backgrounds outline how they have been able to progress their career at Penningtons Manches.
My practice ranges from large plcs to start-up companies and individuals. I act on a variety of commercial property sales and purchases, including hotels, factories and potential development plots. I was even involved in the sale of the site of the Reading Pop Festival. There is an incredible amount of client and professional contact. Penningtons Manches is a great law firm full of friendly, motivated and talented people. I enjoy both the work and the company of my colleagues.
I joined the firm in 2002 from a niche technology practice, having been offered the role of developing the intellectual property and technology team outside London. It was extremely rare to be given a position with such a focus on business development at a relatively early stage. I was made a partner in 2007 and we now have a significant IT practice which is recommended in The Legal 500. I am actively involved in our firm's Multilaw network, and often attend events abroad to develop our international connections.
The challenge of pursuing a business development career in the legal sector brought me to the firm in 2000. What I've found refreshing here is that people, however senior, are very approachable. The partners take business development very seriously and are receptive to ideas. My role offers great diversity and I get involved in all aspects of business development – from drafting pitches and carrying out research to business planning, rolling out a CRM system, managing client accounts and providing BD training.
As a legal biller, I am tasked with processing our invoices and helping the fee earners with their billing as well as dealing with various accounting queries. I joined the firm in 2006 from the public banking sector, having been attracted by the reputation of the practice and the chance to grow in my role. This has varied greatly over the years. The people at Penningtons Manches are friendly and approachable at all levels and the management provide clear communication on the direction of the firm.
I joined the firm as a junior legal secretary in 1984. I have been secretary to various solicitors, partners and heads of department including the head of commercial, head of corporate, head of banking and head of real estate litigation. I was also secretarial co-ordinator for over 20 years and in January 2016 I was promoted to the role of PA manager. Penningtons Manches is a friendly firm and I have always felt totally supported by the colleagues with whom I have worked over the years.
