Portrait of Matilda Kingham
Areas of expertise: Family law, Private wealth

Profile

Matilda is a senior associate and trained mediator in the London family law team. She advises on all areas of private family law including divorce, financial remedy proceedings, private children work, cohabitation issues and injunctive proceedings, often with an international element. She also assists in the preparation of pre- and post-nuptial agreements and cohabitation agreements, working closely with colleagues in the private wealth sector in order to provide a seamless service to high net worth individuals and their families. She has an understanding of LGBT family issues, including international surrogacy. As a mediator, she helps clients navigate through all issues arising upon separation and divorce including financial matters and parenting issues.

With experience of using alternative dispute resolution as a means to settle cases, Matilda regularly assists with the negotiation of voluntary financial settlements, frequently including complex financial issues, and tries her best to resolve cases out of court in a constructive manner. When litigation is required, she acts in children and financial matters in the Central Family Court, the High Court and the Court of Appeal. Barristers working with Matilda have described her as ‘brilliant’ and have said that her ‘clients are lucky to have her’.

To gain a greater insight into how difficult the divorce process can be for clients, Matilda completed a one year course in psychoanalysis and counselling at Tavistock & Portman. She was listed as an ‘associate to watch’ in Chambers High Net Worth 2020 and was ranked in the 2019 edition of The Legal 500. In 2018, she was one of five junior lawyers shortlisted for ‘Family Law Young Solicitor of the Year’ in the Family Law Awards. An active member of Resolution, the leading membership organisation for specialist family lawyers, Matilda trained at Penningtons Manches Cooper before qualifying into the family team in 2015.
