Profile

James is a partner in the real estate division in London. He joined the firm as a trainee solicitor in 1997 and became a partner in 2008.

He specialises in all aspects of non-contentious landlord and tenant law; freehold and leasehold acquisitions and disposals (including portfolio transactions); development work (including forward funding deals); and a wide range of property advice for investors and occupiers alike. He has a proven track record of advising both institutional and private clients on complex and time-critical legal issues.

In addition to leading the property investors team, James is a member of the firm’s health and care and travel, hotels and leisure teams. He is also a member of the Investment Property Forum 'Next Generation' Group and has been a guest blogger on EGi.

Recent work highlights

  • Leading a cross-divisional team in the £30 million acquisition of a development in Welling, Kent consisting of a 72,000 sq ft Tesco supermarket and 64 residential flats let to a prominent housing association.
  • Advising on the £30 million funding of a complex development of a Sainsbury's supermarket and petrol filling station in Bishop Auckland, County Durham.
  • Achieving the disposal of two freehold single-let office investments in the South East for a combined sum of £60 million, in each case to foreign domiciled buyers within short timescales.
  • Acting on the letting of a prominent building in Whitfield Street, London W1 for an annual rent in excess of £1.1 million including advising on the complex surrender arrangements agreed with the outgoing tenant.
