Penningtons partner awarded prestigious Minor Metals Trade Association appointment

11/11/2010
Donald Lambert, a partner in the business services team at Penningtons Solicitors LLP's City office, has been appointed chairman of the Mediation and Arbitration Committee of the Minor Metals Trade Association (MMTA). The MMTA is the world's leading minor metals industry organisation and promotes the interests of companies actively involved in the international trade of minor metals – such as tungsten, cobalt, tantalum and molybdenum.

The Mediation and Arbitration Committee advises the MMTA's ever-increasing international membership on all disputes relating to trading in physical metals. It includes a broad range of experienced metal practitioners, many of whom have substantial arbitration qualifications gained with the Institute of Arbitrators in London. Donald was chosen to succeed John Price of Trident Traders who has decided to step down from the chair of the committee after over ten years in the role.

Donald leads Penningtons' commercial dispute resolution team, advising on a wide variety of international commercial contract disputes. He acts for clients in litigation before the courts as well as spending much of his time giving positioning and dispute avoidance advice. Among his notable successes for metal trading clients was his Court of Appeal win in April 2009 for Westbrook Resources following its long-running dispute with Globe Metallurgical. He is a member of the London Court of International Arbitration and is recognised by the two main legal directories, Chambers Guide to the UK Legal Profession and The Legal 500, as a leader in his field.

Guy Darby, chairman of the MMTA, welcomed Donald's appointment, saying: "The MMTA's mediation and arbitration service is an important benefit of membership. Donald has a long standing relationship with the association and together with his fellow committee members will look to build on the foundations laid by John in dispute resolution."

Commenting on his new role, Donald added: "I am delighted to be asked to take over the reins of the Mediation and Arbitration Committee. It has grown into a highly respected panel which provides essential support to MMTA members and I look forward to continuing the development of the services that if offers to organisations worldwide."
