Seven figure settlement for spinal injuries sustained during visit to Bruges

We acted for a 75 year old British man who suffered permanent spinal cord injuries, which resulted in him being paralysed from the neck down, after being struck by a car while he was crossing the road in Bruges.

Our team liaised with his travel insurer in relation to his repatriation to the UK and subsequently had close contact with both the claimant and his family. We were able to secure the nomination of a UK claims handler by the Belgian insurers and then pursued the claim in the High Court in London.

Interim payments funded the appointment of an independent case manager and the establishment of a domiciliary care package. We were also able to obtain court permission to secure experts in numerous disciplines. The case was settled for a seven figure sum, which included full reimbursement of the travel insurer’s outlay, at a settlement meeting with counsel.
