Serious criminal convictions lead to removal from register

Our professional regulation team acted for a regulator in relation to proceedings brought against a professional following a set of serious criminal convictions directly related to his field of work. The professional had been sentenced to a period of 26 weeks' imprisonment.

The professional failed to attend the hearing but Nicole Curtis, representing the regulator, made submissions that the matter should proceed in his absence. This application was successful and the committee found the convictions proved. As the convictions rendered the professional unfit to remain on the register, the committee directed that his name should be removed.
