Julian joined Penningtons’employment team as a partner in 2010. His practice comprises HR advisory, corporate transactions, projects and employment litigation across a wide range of industries including hospitality and leisure, financial services, professional practices, media and retail. He is frequently called upon to manage large scale restructuring exercises, change programmes and cross border projects for employers. On the transactional side, Julian advises on the management of TUPE issues arising from business acquisitions and disposals and commercial outsourcing deals involving professional services, cleaning, catering, facilities management, website and IT procurement contracts and call centres. He also acts for senior executives in the City, partners and in-house counsel in relation to their career moves and negotiated departures. Julian is acknowledged as a 'hotel and leisure specialist' (The Legal 500 - 2011 edition) and clients have described him as 'very practical and realistic' (The Legal 500 – 2010 edition) in his approach to risk management, dispute resolution and litigation.
Julian is the author of several leading employment law texts including Boardroom Employment Law and Transfer of Undertakings Handbook, and is General Editor of Termination of Employment. He is a commentator on key legal developments in leading journals such as Employment Law Journal and ELA Brief. He regularly hosts seminars, round table discussions and training sessions on labour law issues affecting businesses, particularly in the hotel, restaurant and leisure sector.
