Malcolm qualified 'in house' at the Prudential Corporation plc in 1987, becoming a Solicitor to the Prudential Corporation in 1989. He left the Prudential in 1991 to join Walker Martineau as a partner, becoming a partner at Penningtons in 2000 on the merger of Walker Martineau with Penningtons.
He is head of the banking team, and has particular experience in dealing with secured and unsecured lending structures, bilateral, club and syndicated (both domestic and cross-border), project, asset and acquisition finance. He also gives regulatory and general banking advice, including in relation to Islamic finance initiatives. As well as acting for most of the main UK domestic banks and some private banks, he acts for a number of Far East and Indian sub‑continent banks, advising on general lending and banking work.
Malcolm is also a member and group co-ordinator of the Banking sub-group of Multilaw.
