Spinal injuries specialist draws on personal experience as he joins Penningtons

Penningtons Solicitors LLP is pleased to announce that James Wood has joined its clinical negligence and personal injury group as an associate. James, who is himself a T7 paraplegic following a road traffic accident in 1990, specialises in catastrophic personal injury claims, including both spinal and brain injury cases.

James is a trustee of the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) and has been a member of its General Council since 2006. He is passionate about helping the charity to grow so that the SIA can provide ever increasing services and assistance to both people with spinal cord injuries and their families.

He chairs the SIA’s Social Enterprise and Trading Activities Group which looks at ways of achieving income for the SIA from sources other than donations and events. Recently the SIA joined forces with AWD Chase de Vere to set up SIA Financial Services, a trading company providing independent financial advice to the SIA's membership and others with serious injuries.

James has previously acted mainly as a defendant personal injury solicitor but at Penningtons he will be concentrating on advising claimants in personal injury cases. He initially decided to join Penningtons after coming into contact with the firm while representing clients from a previous practice. James explains: “I have worked with Penningtons on cases where I have acted for the defendant and I was so impressed with their approach that I asked to join them! Members of Penningtons’ clinical negligence and personal injury team have a unique combination of professional and personal experience and I hope that my arrival will further strengthen their already wide-ranging expertise.”
