Penningtons Solicitors LLP is delighted to announce that Mark Lee has been appointed as head of the firm’s nationally recognised travel group. He is based at Penningtons’ Godalming office.

Mark, who was previously at Irwin Mitchell’s City office, has eight years’ post qualification experience of international travel litigation, primarily acting on behalf of legal expenses insurers and individuals injured abroad. He has represented clients in over 30 jurisdictions even though the majority of his foreign accident cases are litigated in this jurisdiction.

He is a fluent Spanish speaker and is therefore able to converse directly with Spanish insurers and their policy holders regarding personal injury claims litigated in the UK. He also advises tour operators regarding their terms and conditions and their potential liability to consumers and assists insurers with the recovery of their outlay abroad.

He is a member of the Travel and Tourism Lawyers Association (TATLA), the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), the British Spanish Lawyers Association (BSLA) and the Pan European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers (PEOPIL).

Penningtons’ chief executive David Raine, who continues to have an active involvement with the travel team, says: “We are very pleased to welcome Mark to Penningtons. The primary strategy behind his appointment is to create a point of contact for insurers and to foster and develop new and existing client relationships. His role will also include a strong emphasis on team management.”

Mark adds: “I have already been very impressed with the travel team at Penningtons and am looking forward to exploring potential business opportunities with new and existing contacts in the future."

Chambers Guide to the UK Legal Profession recognises Penningtons’ travel practice as one of the top in the UK. The 2009 edition of the directory states: “With ‘considerable expertise and thorough, well-grounded knowledge’ of the sector, this team is a recognised player in the claimant personal injury field.”
