His recruitment brings the number of partners at the firm to 63.
With over 12 years' experience, James has a broad range of corporate and commercial expertise and has advised on a wide spectrum of corporate finance transactions, including domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, corporate restructurings and reorganisations and joint ventures. He also has a strong track record advising on private equity transactions, having acted for management teams and institutional houses on numerous mid-market private equity deals. His recent and historic clients include Tate & Lyle Plc, BT Global Services, Fujitsu-Siemens, National Grid plc, J O Hambro Capital Management, NASDAQ, Montagu Private Equity, Gresham and Barclays.
James has a particular interest in the technology sector, having headed BLP's corporate finance/technology, media and telecommunications group. He has a number of key clients in this area and will play an influential role in building the capability of Penningtons' cross divisional technology sector group.
Commenting on James' arrival, Penningtons' chief executive David Raine said: "We are delighted to welcome James to Penningtons. The expansion of our City based corporate team is an important component of the ongoing strategic development of the firm. James' knowledge of working with larger corporates and FTSE 100 companies and the diversity of clients for whom he has acted mean that he is ideally suited to lead this growth. He joins us at an exciting time, following our recent merger with Dawsons and the acquisition of the partners from Wedlake Saint, and his appointment means that our partner headcount has increased by 25% in the last six months."
