Nichola Carter, partner and head of immigration at Penningtons Solicitors LLP, was one of the speakers at the Westminster Higher Education Forum on 2 February. The event, which is one of the leading conferences in the higher education sector, was an opportunity to assess the role of UK universities in a rapidly changing global market for higher education.
Among other key speakers were Richard Yelland of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Phil Baty, editor of Times Higher Education Rankings and Professor David Greenaway, vice-chancellor of the University of Nottingham. The event was chaired by Roberta Blackman-Woods MP, chair of the All-Party Parliamentary University Group.
Nichola discussed the Government's key policy aim to reduce net migration and the impact it is having on the student immigration system. She also talked about ways in which the UK's reputation as a global centre of education can be improved to continue to attract the 'brightest and best' international students.
