Vault.com Ltd, a London based career information publisher, recently surveyed solicitors at 110 major law firms (selected because of their prominence in the legal industry and their interest to students and graduates). In total, 1,500 lawyers and nearly 900 trainees from firms across Great Britain responded to the survey. Vault then tabulated the results from these surveys to compile its prestige, practice area and quality of life rankings.
Penningtons fared particularly well in the quality of life rankings, and was listed in the top ten in the following categories:
#3 – Diversity with respect to women
#3 – Hours
#5 – Solicitor / partner relations (fifth overall but the top UK law firm, the others ahead of Penningtons all being US firms)
According to the Vault survey: "While Penningtons may not be the biggest firm out there, its solicitors are more than happy with their lot as regards the quality of work they're handed - and that goes from fresh-faced NQs right up the line. "The variety and quality of work that I carry out makes my job extremely enjoyable," says one freshly minted employment specialist. Over in corporate, meanwhile, another NQ waxes similarly lyrical about the "high quality of work", the opportunity to "work very closely with partners", and the "friendly and relaxed" atmosphere at the firm. ....."We are treated fairly and rewarded for hard work," says a litigator with five years under her belt."
