Mike Busby, Solicitor, Commercial Property Division
‘My practice ranges from large plcs to start up companies and individuals. I act on a variety of commercial property sales and purchases, including hotels, factories and potential development plots. I was even involved in the sale of the site of the Reading Pop Festival. There is an incredible amount of client and professional contact. Penningtons is a great law firm full of friendly, motivated and talented people. I enjoy both the work and the company of my colleagues.’

‘I joined Penningtons in 2007 as an associate from a City law firm. Penningtons offered me a fantastic opportunity to develop a corporate tax practice across its three offices. I was immediately impressed by the quality of the corporate and commercial property work undertaken by Penningtons, and by the friendliness and talents of its people. Penningtons has supported me all the way in developing my practice area and I was made a partner in April 2008. I look forward to continuing to help move Penningtons forward.’

‘I was attracted to Penningtons as a trainee by the mix of both commercial and private client work. After qualifying, I was involved in a range of commercial litigation but when the opportunity arose to concentrate on employment work, I grabbed it with both hands. As the client base developed, my practice changed from being largely contentious to including a significant proportion of advisory work. Although most of my clients are employers, I enjoy the fact that I am still able to work for individuals as well.’

Joanne Vengadesan - Partner - Business Services Division

Joanne Vengadesan, Partner, Business Services Division
‘I joined Penningtons in 2002 from a niche technology practice. Penningtons offered me the role of developing the intellectual property and technology practice outside London. It was extremely rare to be offered a role with such a focus on business development at a relatively early stage. We now have a significant IT practice which is recommended in the Legal 500 and I was made a partner in 2007. I am actively involved in our firm's Multilaw network, and often attend events abroad to develop our international connections.’

Claire Wood

Claire Wood, Client Relationship Manager, Business Development
‘I joined Penningtons in 2000 to pursue the challenge of business development in the legal sector. What I've found refreshing here is that people, however senior, are very approachable. The partners take business development very seriously and are receptive to ideas. My role offers great diversity and I get involved in all aspects of business development – from organising events, drafting pitches and carrying out research to business planning, rolling out a CRM system, managing client accounts and providing BD training.’

Isabel Hodgson - Business Services Division Isabel Hodgson, Secretary, Business Services Division
‘I joined Penningtons in November 2005 and am a secretarial co-ordinator in the corporate and commercial team. As well as my secretarial work, Penningtons has given me the opportunity to expand my skill set by working on the new website, assisting with the administration of on-line resources and the library, and becoming a Lexcel representative. I have also been given the opportunity to do ILEX training and have been actively encouraged in my personal development through support staff training.’
